Plan “B”

As explained in my previous post we had to amend our trip due to bad weather conditions. In our original plan we supposed to fly from Cairn to Hamilton Island but…we took a bus to Airlie Beach a few days earlier what at the end was not that bad idea. 

Airlie Beach is the perfect base for your next holiday to the Whitsundays. The largest town on the Whitsunday Coast and the main point of access to the islands and the Great Barrier Reef by day, Airlie Beach is a thriving hub which offers a vibrant array of dining and nightlife, shopping and relaxation.  Airlie Beach offers freedom of choice and flexibility with the majority of tours and activities based out of the town centre or Port of Airlie to the south and Abell Point Marina to the north. You can choose between activities as diverse as sailing, bareboating, kayaking, jetskiing, jetboating, scenic flights, snorkelling, scuba diving, crocodile spotting, 4WD tours, mountain biking, bushwalking, segway tours, camping, hiking, golf, shopping, relaxation and much more!

Ocean Rafting

We arrived at Airlie Beach in the evening and to not loose another day we immediately booked a day trip to Whitsundays. Very excited we came next morning to the Abell Point Marina and took a small boat to discover underwater life. During our trip we had 3 snorkeling stops and visit of an island with an amazing view. We truly recommend this activity- the team was young and dynamic. All the trip was efficient but without any hurry.

Two days sailing

This activity was booked in advance before we arrived to Airlie Beach. Sail throughout the waters of the Whitsunday Islands and flit from one island paradise to the next, that’s how they advertise. During the sail we stopped 3 times a day for snorkeling, we have eaten on the board (lunch, dinner, breakfast and lunch were included). Apart form that we slept on the board (what is not easy for people who like comfort- It’s hot and space less), we didn’t mind that much:) We have also visited a view point and could see sunrise without any other tourists.

Comparing those two activities I would recommend for sure the first one due to more action and no need to spend many hours on the boat. OFC everyone has own lifestyle and opinion but it was definitely not for us. During both trips we have seen turtles, amazing fishes, sharks and beautiful reef so we can’t complain.

My opinion

Visiting Whitsundays was an amazing experience. We have visited many countries already but never seen so many fishes, and especially not in this size. For us it was a number in Australia so far. If you will be in Queensland don’t forget to make a stop and pay a visit to one of those islands.
