Chaotic, packed city with a vibe
I have visited Hong Kong twice already, each time I spent there more than a week and never got bored. It’s one of my top five favorite cities in the world, and I relish any chance to visit. The fast pace creates a sense of permanent change, and the crowds, multiculturalism, and food keep me continuously coming back.
Hong Kong is a busy city of eight million inhabitants with one of the biggest hub airports in the world. It can be overwhelming for many visitors, especially those not used to crowded places.
My personal hot spots of Hong Kong
The street markets in Mong Kok
This area of Hong Kong has the largest and busiest markets in which to soak up the frenetic atmosphere, sights, and sounds of Hong Kong. Of course, these markets are also the best places to shop for inexpensive items and souvenirs in Hong Kong.
Hong Kong is a big city and each time you will discover something new. I try to turn in new streets, go deeper, enjoy street food, talk with people (not always easy due to language barrier but try).
Take the Star Ferry
The best way to get across the harbor from Kowloon Island to Hong Kong Island is via the Star Ferry, which showcases a fantastic view of the city skyline .
Hike or take a tram to the Peak
This tram takes you to the top of the Peak, Hong Kong Island’s largest mountain,. You ride a funicular to the top where you enjoy spectacular 180-degree views of the skyscrapers of Victoria Harbor, Kowloon, and the surrounding hills. It’s the best view of the city from the top.
The nightlife at Lan Kwai Fong
LKF is the main nightlife and party area in Hong Kong and is filled with tons of bars, clubs, sheesha and cheap drinks.
Visit the largest shopping mall in Hong Kong
Harbour City one of the largest malls in Asia, is a mega upscale complex that will overwhelm you with its sheer size, and incredible collection of attractions and restaurants. A paradise for shopping addicts, this vast shopping complex also hosts a plethora of high-end fashion boutiques, such as Prada, Dolce & Gabbana, Louis Vuitton and Burberry.
Watch Symphony of Lights
A dazzling 15-minute sounds and light show that will leave its spectators in utter amazement. This nightly spectacle will appease your senses with one-of-a-kind digital fireworks, flashy lasers and splendid light displays.
The good idea is to visit one of the skyscrapers. It is always an unique experience. I try to do it by each visit in big cities.
